The Senate Committee on Education has praised the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) for taking significant measures against exam fraud in Nigeria by efficiently using technology in administering the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
On Friday, Senator Muntari Dandutse, who chairs the Senate Committee on Tertiary Institutions and TETFund, visited Government Secondary School in Wuse Zone 3, Abuja, accompanied by fellow committee members to oversee the current examinations.
He restated the pledge of the 10th National Assembly to offer all essential backing needed for the progress of education in the nation, emphasizing that the government must guarantee educational access for every Nigerian.
As he stated, “The role of the National Assembly in providing oversight is crucial for guaranteeing accountability and transparency across all governmental operations.”
Dandutse said the committee was pleased to observe that JAMB has deployed surveillance infrastructure, including the installation of closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras in approved Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres across the country.

He stated that “the CCTV systems and other technological safeguards implemented by the Board will guarantee transparency, security, and integrity during the exam.”
The UTME, starting nationally on April 24, 2025, is set to conclude on May 5, 2025. More than two million candidates have enrolled to take part in this exam throughout the nation.
He said, “What is important and very fundamental, JAMB has taken care of, even if there is any malpractice or anything. They have a tracker to ensure that everything is monitored and they have CCTV to monitor all the Centres throughout the country.
Additionally, they have established a norm ensuring that nobody gains admission without proper authorization and successfully clearing the examination. This is praiseworthy, and I believe it’s crucial to back and improve the education sector in Nigeria.
He also praised the JAMB Registrar, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, for instilling transparency and discipline in all exams and operations at JAMB.
He said, “As legislators, our purpose is to guarantee that every Nigerian studies within the nation’s borders for the development of our country. Nigeria is our only homeland, and we must put in immense effort.”
“We are here today to witness the most important aspects of the foundation of tertiary institutions. The JAMB is undertaking examination. That is why we are going for oversight as stakeholders from the Senate of the National Assembly.
“It is part of our oversight function to ensure that there is accountability and transparency in whatever aspect of government activities. As part of the educational system, which under the 10th Assembly, under the leadership of our leaders, the Senate President and the leadership of the National Assembly, we are here today to witness this very important development and enhance the responsibility given to us as stakeholders.
These are my colleagues present here to guarantee that Nigeria is positioned globally in terms of its education system.
