On April 22, in Pakistan, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif conveyed his country’s significant desire to strengthen cooperation with China in the realm of space technology. During a meeting with a group from Galaxy Space, a Chinese firm based in Beijing, located at their headquarters in Islamabad, he mentioned Pakistan’s keenness for closer partnership with China regarding satellites, space-based internet systems, and telecommunication advancements.
China’s rapidly expanding space initiative has already constructed the Tiangong space station and initiated lunar exploration projects. Prime Minister Shehbaz commended China as a reliable strategic ally and stated that Pakistan is prioritizing its own space industry at the highest level.
The Galaxy Space team, headed by Chairman Xu Ming, expressed interest in investing in Pakistan’s aerospace sector. During their visit, they explored potential collaborative initiatives with regional technology companies and space organizations. This move comes after a previous accord which entails training two Pakistani astronauts in China as part of preparations for an upcoming crewed space expedition.
In the previous year, the government enacted the National Space Activities Rules 2024 to oversee space-related activities within the nation. As international firms such as Starlink and OneWeb expand their presence, Chinese company Galaxy Space is considering opportunities to offer satellite-based internet access in the less accessible regions of Pakistan.
