We’ve seen the Sony DualSense Edge go on sale a few times this year, and it’s back on discount ahead of Black Friday as part of Sony’s holiday promotions. Right now, you can grab the pro-style gamepad in either black or white at Amazon, Walmart, and Best Buy for about $169, which is a $30 savings and just $10 off its lowest price. The black version doesn’t often get these kinds of discounts, so it’s a great opportunity to get one if you prefer that sleek look.
If you spend a lot of time gaming on the PlayStation 5, the DualSense Edge really enhances the experience with more customization options than the standard DualSense controller. Its deep software integration with the PS5 allows you to create up to four different profiles, with various options for button mapping, stick sensitivity, and commands for the rear buttons. For example, you could set up separate profiles for games like Ghost of Yōtei and Arc Raiders and switch between them seamlessly without leaving your game.
Beyond custom profiles, the DualSense Edge lets you tweak the triggers (L2 and R2) to suit different play styles and games. You can adjust the triggers to be more sensitive for first-person shooters like Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, or less sensitive for racing games for smoother acceleration and braking. Plus, it’s easy to replace stick modules if one stops working.
However, while the customization is a big plus, the DualSense Edge does have its drawbacks. The Verge’s Cameron Faulkner noted that the controller only averages about eight hours of battery life on a full charge, which isn’t as good as the standard DualSense controller. On the bright side, it comes with a long charging cable that securely locks into the controller, making it less likely to get accidentally pulled out.
