YouTube is launching a new AI-driven playlist feature for Premium users on iOS and Android that allows them to create playlists using text prompts.
To get started, users can head to the Library tab, tap the “New” button, and choose the “AI playlist” option. They can then enter a prompt of their choice—either by text or voice. Examples include “raging death metal,” “sad post rock,” “progressive house mix for a chill party,” “indie pop,” or “90s classic hits,” which will generate a custom playlist.

YouTube has been exploring AI for playlist creation for some time. Back in July 2024, the company was testing a feature that allowed users to create custom radio stations through prompts in the U.S.
Other streaming services like Spotify, Amazon Music, and Deezer have also introduced AI features for generating playlists or radio stations.
YouTube is working to make its Premium plan more appealing. Earlier this week, the platform began limiting free users’ access to song lyrics on the YouTube Music app. A representative told TechCrunch that this was an experiment with “a small percentage of ad-supported users,” emphasizing that most free users still have access to lyrics.
Google has reported growth in its subscription services, with YouTube being a significant part of that success. Earlier this month, it announced that there are now 325 million paying subscribers across Google One and YouTube Premium.
