Windows 11 2026 Update Issues: Some Computers Fail to Shutdown

Microsoft has discovered issues following the installation of the January 2026 Windows security update. To resolve these problems, an out-of-band (OOB) update was issued today, January 17, 2026.

  • Connection and Authentication Failures: Users may experience issues in remote connection applications. This affects several platforms, including Windows 11 (version 25H2), Windows 10 (version 22H2 ESU), and Windows Server 2025. For a complete list of affected products, please refer to the end of this message.

  • Shutdown and Hibernate Failures on Devices with Secure Launch: This issue is specific to Windows 11, version 23H2, where devices may fail to shut down or hibernate properly.
