A trial initiative for electronic ID and biometric boarding has been introduced at Terminal 3 of Tan Son Nhat International Airport in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.

The launch, which took place on Saturday, signifies the conclusion of an important infrastructure initiative commemorating the nation’s reunification anniversary on April 30, marking 50 years since then.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh stated that this initiative is in line with the nation’s drive towards digital transformation and technological advancement, as detailed in Politburo resolutions 57 and 59.

Terminal 3, which has become Vietnam’s biggest facility for domestic travelers, can handle up to 20 million passengers each year. This upgrade boosts the overall capacity of Tan Son Nhat International Airport to 50 million passengers annually. The development cost approximately VND11 trillion (more than $425 million) and commenced at the end of 2022.

The four-story terminal along with one underground level covers an area of 112,500 square meters and comprises four primary sections: the passenger terminal, a multilevel car park equipped with various facilities, an overpass roadway system, and areas for aircraft parking.

The complex features 27 departure gates, six areas for handling outgoing luggage, and 10 zones for collecting arriving luggage.
