Abdallah Al Dardari, Director of the UNDP Regional Bureau for Arab States, stated on Friday that Morocco is positioning digital transformation at the core of its development plan with the aim of speeding up economic inclusion and increasing involvement from young people and women.

“Morocco has the opportunity to utilize digital technology and promote economic inclusiveness to reach its full developmental potential,” emphasized Al Dardari at a conference in Rabat hosted by the Policy Center for the New South (PCNS).

Al Dardari, who concurrently holds the position of UN Under-Secretary-General and UNDP Deputy Administrator, noted that Morocco is embarking on a “new chapter” in its developmental path and needs to “accelerate efforts” to solidify the advancements made over the last quarter-century.

He noted that the Kingdom is relatively well-positioned to navigate the current global economic headwinds and can use technology as a strategic tool to advance its long-term goals.

Earlier this week, Morocco and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) signed an agreement aimed at establishing a regional Arab-African digital center dedicated to artificial intelligence (AI), data science, and technological innovation.

Known as the “Morocco Digital for Sustainable Development Hub,” this initiative seeks to incorporate artificial intelligence into governmental services, build compatible digital infrastructure, and advocate for equitable and conscientious digital policies.

As part of wider initiatives aimed at promoting regional collaboration in digital transformation and sustainable growth throughout Africa and the Arab world, this hub plays a significant role.
