Truth Social Experiences Outage Amid Trump’s Announcement of U.S. Airstrikes on Iran

On Saturday evening, an unexpected malfunction occurred on Truth Social, the social media platform owned by Trump Media & Technology Group (TMTG), coinciding with former President Donald Trump’s announcement of U.S. military actions against Iranian nuclear facilities.

Outage Details

Around 8 PM ET, many users attempting to access Truth Social were met with error messages indicating a "network failure." The on-screen prompt read: “Please try again.” This outage unfolded shortly after Trump made a significant post at 7:46 PM ET, declaring that the United States had executed a “very successful attack on three key nuclear sites” in Iran, specifically naming Fordow, Natanz, and Esfahan.

Trump’s Announcement

Following this initial post, a screenshot of Trump’s message was shared on his account on the social media platform X at 7:53 PM ET. Trump elaborated that U.S. aircraft had safely exited Iranian airspace after deploying a full payload of bombs on the Fordow facility. He expressed gratitude toward U.S. military personnel, stating, “Congratulations to our great American Warriors. There is not another military in the world that could have done this. NOW IS THE TIME FOR PEACE!”

Trump is known for regularly using Truth Social to comment on major national and international events. His recent investments in TMTG have reportedly increased his stake in the company to over $2 billion.

Service Disruptions Reported

The service outage garnered attention on DownDetector, a platform that reports service disruptions based on user input, which saw a significant spike in reports around the same time. The cause of the outage remained unclear. NetBlocks, an organization that tracks global internet accessibility, indicated via a post on BlueSky that the outage was affecting many international users following Trump’s announcement. They clarified that this incident was not a result of country-level internet disruptions or filtering.

Truth Social has not yet responded to inquiries for comment.

Official Confirmations and Context

Officials from both the United States and Iran, who requested anonymity, confirmed to The New York Times that U.S. forces had indeed carried out airstrikes on the Fordow and Natanz sites. The condition of these sites, however, had not been clarified by 9 PM ET.

This strike follows a series of escalations between the U.S. and Iran, particularly since Israel initiated bombing campaigns against targets in Iran on June 13.

Recent Communications from Truth Social

On Wednesday, Truth Social reportedly sent emails to users encouraging them to follow Trump’s account. The email emphasized the importance of being connected to Trump on the platform for insights on global affairs, stating, “If you aren’t following President Donald J. Trump on Truth Social, you’re missing an essential resource for navigating world affairs today.”

In a subsequent development, the White House press secretary, Karoline Leavitt, confirmed that Trump would deliver a televised address at 10 PM ET, providing further updates on the situation.
