On April 12, Pakistan reported that the Trump administration decided to exclude smartphones, computers, and semiconductor chips from the stringent new tariffs imposed on goods coming from China. This move alleviates some of the financial strain for U.S. consumers and technology sectors.

The exceptions, declared by U.S. Customs and Border Protection, pertain to goods that were subjected to a 145% duty before. Products such as hard drives and computer processors have been exempted as well.

Earlier this month, Trump implemented a new 125% tariff on numerous Chinese products, building upon previous sanctions. Nonetheless, these exceptions mitigate the effect of those more extensive trade actions.

Although Trump claims that tariffs will revitalize U.S. manufacturing, experts caution that domestic technology production might require several years to ramp up.
