Posted on

Thirteen universities in Asia are among the world’s top 50 for computer science, with tuition fees ranging from US$3,400 to US$34,000 per year.

Based on the QS World University Rankings by Subject for 2025, published in March by Quacquarelli Symonds, an authority in global higher education data from the UK, institutions of learning in Asia have shown robust strength specifically within the field of computer science.

In the global ranking of the top 50 universities, 13 institutions are from Asia, with Chinese universities taking the lead with eight entries.

The top spots were claimed by educational institutions from Singapore, with the National University of Singapore placing 4th worldwide, followed closely by Nanyang Technological University at number 6.

Following them were Tsinghua University at 11th place, Peking University at 14th, Shanghai Jiao Tong University at 20th—all from China—the University of Hong Kong at 21st, and the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology at 24th in Hong Kong.

QS ranks among the globe’s top three university-ranking entities, together with Times Higher Education and the Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU), commonly referred to as the Shanghai Rankings.

QS rankings assess around 1,700 higher education institutions across more than 100 nations and regions. These evaluations rely on five key indicators, where academic standing holds significant importance (accounting for 40-50% of the score). Additional factors encompass employer views, mean citation counts per publication, the h-index which reflects both output volume and influence of scholarly work, as well as an IRN metric gauging how effectively schools collaborate internationally.

In Vietnam, five institutions appeared in the QS rankings for computer science: Duy Tan University (ranked 201-250), the University of Danang – University of Science and Technology (placed at 451-500), Hanoi University of Science and Technology, along with Vietnam National University, Hanoi (both falling within the range of 551-600), and Ton Duc Thang University (positioned between 601-650).
