While Geoff Keighley had previously hinted that Tomb Raider would make an appearance at the Game Awards, the unexpected twist is that fans will be treated to not one, but two game announcements. Crystal Dynamics and Amazon Game Studios are set to launch two Tomb Raider titles back-to-back in 2026 and 2027. The first, titled Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis, is slated for release in 2026. Don’t be misled by the intriguing name; Legacy of Atlantis is actually a remake of the original Tomb Raider game built on Unreal Engine 5, similar to how Tomb Raider Anniversary revitalized the 1997 classic for the PS2.
But that’s just the beginning. In 2027, the Tomb Raider team will unveil another title, Tomb Raider Catalyst, which promises an entirely new adventure featuring a fresh take on the iconic character. Longtime fans will recall that Lara Croft was originally conceived as Laura Cruz, a South American woman, before being reimagined as the British icon we know today. The character in Catalyst seems to reflect this original vision, appearing as a Lara that pays tribute to her roots as a woman of color. While there’s still a lot we don’t know about either game, I’m certainly not complaining about getting two new Tomb Raider experiences to look forward to.
