Additionally, it can also recharge your smartphone.

The future of
mobility
is electric, and
e-bikes
They’re fully integrated into our everyday routines, whether we’re running errands, traveling to work, or enjoying a leisurely bike ride during the weekend. Given this integration, one has to wonder: If devices like laptops, smartphones, tablets, action cameras, and vapes all use USB-C for charging, then why isn’t the same true for electric bikes?

That’s the question
Ampler
It appears to be promoting its new Nova line of electric bikes. The company, based in Estonia, has recently introduced two new e-bikes: the Nova and Nova Pro. Both models feature USB-C Power Delivery 3.1 charging. That’s right—actual USB-C ports similar to those found on MacBooks. These bikes have an integrated 48V 336Wh battery which you can charge fully from empty in approximately three hours when using a 140-watt USB-C adapter.

That’s fast, and even more importantly, convenient.

Although USB-C technology isn’t novel, this might be its most significant practical implementation within the electric bike industry so far. The majority of electric bikes continue to use large, specialized charging units and plugs that can easily get damaged or are difficult to substitute. Losing such a component during travel could leave you stranded without options for replacement nearby. However, with a USB-C charger, chances are high that you’ll have one readily available either in your bag or at an adjacent electronic goods outlet.

The Nova lineup demonstrates that this configuration is not just feasible but also pragmatic.

These aren’t powerful, heavy-duty trail blazers; they’re urban bicycles built for everyday practicality. Whether you opt for the €2,990 Nova or the pricier €3,490 Nova Pro (approximately $3,230 and $3,770 USD), both models feature 250W engines capped at 25 km/h (around 15.5 mph). They also include compact batteries that allow for convenient USB-C charging. Additionally, the higher-end model comes equipped with a maintenance-free Gates Carbon belt drive, ideal for those who want to keep their trousers dust-free as they navigate through town.

Is it safe? Absolutely, considering Ampler’s engineering and compliance with USB-C Power Delivery standards. The firm went as far as testing compatibility with popular chargers such as those from Ikea and Apple. They will also offer you a 140W model for €80 (approximately $87 USD) should you require more power. Additionally, the port supports bi-directional charging, enabling you to recharge your devices—at a slower rate of 15W—if necessary.

Preorders are open now across the UK, EU, and Switzerland, with deliveries starting in June. No word yet on global availability, but it’s a solid sign of where things are headed.

With an increasing number of devices adopting USB-C as a standard, it only makes sense for electric bikes to do the same. This shift helps reduce waste, minimize clutter, and simplify things for cyclists. Now you have the convenience of using one cable to charge both your laptop, phone, and even your e-bike.

Sounds like a micromobility win to me.
