THAI Academy’s AI Revolution: Empowering Over a Million Worldwide

Posted on

The THAI Academy program, a collaborative effort between the Royal Thai Government and Microsoft Thailand, aims to promote equitable access to artificial intelligence education and capabilities nationwide. Backed by over 35 organizations from both the public and private sectors—with leadership provided by the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society—the initiative targets empowering more than one million Thais by the close of 2025.

The program’s efforts encompass various sectors including government, education, industry, and underprivileged communities, fostering widespread AI literacy across the country.

Developing AI literacy in the government sector:

In collaboration with the Office of the Public Sector Development Commission (OPDC) and the Digital Government Development Agency (DGA), AI training will be offered to more than 100,000 government employees. Additionally, a specialized program called ‘Tech for Gov – Next Generation Government AI Training Program’ encourages public sector workers to delve into how AI can contribute to national advancement.

The Department of Skill Development (DSD) is collaborating with Microsoft to educate 2,000 trainers and administrators, who will subsequently enhance the capabilities of more than 100,000 employees and individuals seeking employment nationwide.

The National Cyber Security Agency (NCSA) is collaborating on AI and cybersecurity training for 368 personnel from critical information infrastructure organisations, along with 10,000 students.

Unlocking AI for education:

The Ministry of Education is partnering to train 4,500 teachers, with outreach expected to impact over 400,000 students. Additional collaboration with IPST and NECTEC will integrate foundational AI content into the national curriculum for students in grades 4-12.

The Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research, and Innovation is backing AI education initiatives aimed at training 50,000 college students specializing in technology-driven disciplines, thus fostering a skilled workforce prepared for the future.

Microsoft is also working with 20 universities to upskill faculty, integrate AI content into Learning Management Systems, and develop micro-credential systems to support flexible, self-directed learning paths.

Aiding enterprises and the evolution of industries:

Microsoft has teamed up with the Digital Council of Thailand, Federation of Thai Industries, LiVE Exchange, OSMEP, SME Development Bank, and the Thai Chamber of Commerce to assist more than 20,000 small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in leveraging artificial intelligence. Key highlights will be featured at the SMEs AI Skills Summit.
