Optus is raising the cost of its monthly mobile phone plans, which is a significant setback for subscribers.

Australia’s second-biggest telco will
increase the cost of certain plans starting from June 4, 2025.

The telecommunications corporation has informed its clients that the rise in charges is due to enhancing the network and technology to ensure continuous connectivity for all Australians.

A customer email disclosed that certain plans will see an increase of $2 to $6 each month.

The price increase covers some of the telco giant’s most popular plans including Choice, Choice Plus and Business Mobile Plus.

This means Australians who are currently paying $52 per month on a Optus Choice Plus plan will pay $55 per month from June.

The managing director of Optus for customer solutions, Anthony Shiner, stated that the telecommunications company is “dedicated to ensuring Australians stay connected and are continuing to invest in” various initiatives.

‘Streaming device payment plans for current customers will stay unchanged,’ Shiner informed Yahoo Finance.

‘Customers whose plans are changing will receive an email or SMS message explaining the changes.’

Customers impacted by the price hikes will also see increases in their data allowances.

Optus declared additions ranging from 20GB to 40GB each month based on the specific plan.

Following the price increase, device payment plans with Optus will remain unchanged.

Customers who sign up with the telecommunications company now will face a higher rate moving ahead.

The modifications were introduced just under a year following the firm’s previous rate hike, with prepaid mobile plans increasing by $3 or $6 per line back in August 2024.
