Silksong Free Expansion Coming Next Year

It’s hard to believe that Hollow Knight: Silksong was released this year, but now we have something new to look forward to: a free expansion titled Sea of Sorrow, set to launch in 2026. Team Cherry refers to it as the game’s “first big expansion.” They shared in a recent blog post, “New areas, bosses, tools, and more! Hornet’s adventures continue in our nautically themed expansion, coming free for all players next year. We’ll keep further details a secret for now, but expect additional info shortly before Hollow Knight: Silksong – Sea of Sorrow releases.”

According to Team Cherry, over 7 million copies of Silksong have been sold, with “millions more” playing it through Xbox Game Pass.

The original Hollow Knight is also getting an update. Team Cherry is developing a Nintendo Switch 2 Edition of the game that will feature all the upgrades and enhancements included in Silksong for the platform, such as high frame-rate modes, higher resolutions, and additional graphical effects. If you own the Switch version, you’ll receive the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition as a free update when it launches in 2026.

Before that edition arrives, Team Cherry plans to “update all versions of the original game for current platforms, adding features and fixing bugs.” These updates will include “full 16:10 and 21:9 aspect ratio support for those of you with Steam Decks or ultrawide monitors,” and PC players can participate in a public beta to test the new updates.
