The Minister of Communications, Digital Technology, and Innovation, Samuel Nartey George, has shared details about his recent encounter with Malfred Kwame Kudu, widely recognized as Kwame Lighter, the well-known iPhone repair expert from Kumasi who gained internet fame.
During an appearance on TV3’s New Day morning show hosted by media figure Roland Walker, the Member of Parliament representing the Ningo-Prampram district disclosed information regarding his encounter with 27-year-old Kwame Lighter.
He mentioned that he first came across the video, yet didn’t give it much thought until several prominent figures and everyday Ghanaians contacted him and praised the Kumasi-based iPhone repair expert.
Sam George expressed his admiration for Kwame Lighter’s remarkable skills after watching the video again during his attendance at the Global Artificial Intelligence on Africa conference in Kigali, Rwanda.
The Communications minister mentioned that he contacted the Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, who located the young man and provided his phone number. The minister then communicated with Kwame Lighter and bought an airline ticket for him so he could go to Accra.
Sam George mentioned that he was initially puzzled about whether Kwame Lighter was a young child or an adult when they first met in his office. He highlighted that he valued the 27-year-old iPhone technician’s humility throughout their discussions.
The minister indicated that Kwame Lighter was a prime example of Ghanaian talent requiring considerable backing. He mentioned that the youth told him he had effectively coached multiple people.
