On April 8, 2025, ENA reported that Russian experts are compiling comprehensive data about advanced technologies for collecting oil and managing oil spill cleanup from water surfaces as well as effective methods for gathering plastics at Lake Baikal, according to TV BRICS.

The announcement was made by Ivan Kushch, Head of the Department of International Cooperation for natural resource and environmental protection at the Ministry of Natural Resources. The press service of the ministry reported this information.

The 11th meeting of heads of environmental ministries from BRICS nations was held in Brazil under the chairmanship of the head of the Brazilian Ministry, Marina Silva.

Once this task is finished, we will be prepared to present the outcomes to you and start a conversation about sharing the best practices and those of the BRICS nations,” Kushch stated during a working group session preceding the ministerial meeting.

Russia suggested proceeding with talks about technologies through the BRICS Platform for Environmentally Sound Technologies (BEST) and as part of the BRICS Clean Rivers Initiative.

The primary focus of the meeting was on key environmental issues such as fighting against plastic pollution, addressing desertification, preventing land degradation, protecting ecosystems, and tackling climate change.

In the course of the conversation, the ministers backed Russia’s proposals regarding collaboration in environmental conservation efforts, encompassing areas such as forest management and climate action initiatives.

Furthermore, the leaders of these organizations concurred on strategies for 2025, encompassing the exchange of experiences and the adoption of best practices across BRICS nations.
