“When we reflect upon this 50-year voyage today, we recognize just how much progress has been made. The dream of India’s space program began with nothing but unwavering belief. A group of enthusiastic young scientists who were driven to contribute to their nation…they lacked both contemporary tools and global technological advancements available nowadays. Their sole assets were their skills, commitment, diligence, and an ardent desire to serve their country.” This statement came from Prime Minister Modi during the 121st installment of his radio address ‘Mann Ki Baat’.
“You must have seen pictures of our scientists carrying critical equipment themselves on bullock carts and bicycles. It is the result of that very dedication and spirit of service to the nation that so much has changed today. Today, India has become a Global Space Power. We have created a record by launching 104 Satellites simultaneously,” PM Modi added.

The spacecraft, named after the renowned Indian astronomer, was entirely designed and built in India before being launched by a Soviet Kosmos-3M rocket from Kapustin Yar on April 19, 1975.

was created for conducting research in X-ray astronomy, aeronomy, and solar physics.
Meanwhile, in his Mann Ki Baat address, Prime Minister Modi stated that India has become the first country to reach the South Pole of the Moon.
He pointed out that India initiated the Mars Orbiter Mission and came remarkably near to the sun with the Aditya-L1 Mission. He stated that today, India leads the world’s most economical yet highly effective space program overall.
The Prime Minister mentioned that numerous nations worldwide look to the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) for support with their satellites and space missions. Recalling his feelings when observing the launch of PSLV-C23 back in 2014, he expressed immense pride. Additionally, he attended the ISRO facility in Bangalore during the descent of Chandrayaan-2 in 2019. The Prime Minister noted that despite Chandrayaan not accomplishing its intended goals, it highlighted the perseverance and enthusiasm of the scientific team. He emphasized that this dedication became evident as these very scientists successfully carried out Chandrayaan-3, an achievement witnessed globally.
The Prime Minister mentioned that India has now opened up its space industry to the private sector, allowing numerous young people to achieve significant breakthroughs in space entrepreneurship. He highlighted that just a decade ago, there was only one such enterprise, whereas currently, over 325 startups are actively operating within this domain across the nation.
The Prime Minister conveyed his belief that India will achieve remarkable milestones soon. Currently, the nation is actively gearing up for several significant endeavors such as Gaganyaan, SpaDeX, and Chandrayaan-4. According to PM Modi, India is also making progress with plans for the Venus Orbiter Mission and the Mars Lander Mission.
India has initiated the Mars Orbiter Mission, and we’ve come remarkably close to the Sun via the Aditya-L1 mission. Currently, India boasts one of the most economical yet highly effective space programs globally. Numerous nations rely on ISRO for launching satellites and conducting various space missions. Whenever an ISRO satellite launch occurs, it fills us with immense national pride. In 2014, witnessing the launch of PSLV-C23 evoked such sentiments within me as well. During the descent of Chandrayaan-2 in 2019 at the ISRO center in Bangalore, I was also present. Although Chandrayaan-2 did not meet expectations back then, causing considerable distress among the scientific community, I observed firsthand the perseverance and dedication of these researchers. A few years later, however, the global stage recognized the achievements accomplished by those very scientists with the triumphant execution of Chandrayaan-3.
“Upcoming eras will bring numerous fresh opportunities in space exploration. India is set to achieve unprecedented milestones. The nation is currently gearing up for several crucial missions such as Gaganyaan, SpaDeX, and Chandrayaan-4. Additionally, we are making progress on the Venus orbiter mission and the Mars lander project. Our space scientists will instill renewed national pride via their groundbreaking inventions,” he stated.
In the meantime, during his Mann Ki Baat program, the Prime Minister honored the late former ISRO chairperson K Kasturirangan, who received a state funeral today in Bangalore.
About two days prior, our nation bade farewell to an eminent scientist, Dr. K. Kasturirangan ji. Every time I had the privilege of meeting him, conversations often revolved around themes such as the potential of young Indians, contemporary educational approaches, and advancements in space sciences. His invaluable contributions towards elevating scientific endeavors, enhancing education systems, and propelling India’s space program will forever remain etched in our memories. Under his stewardship, ISRO achieved significant milestones. Various space initiatives progressed remarkably during his tenure, earning international acclaim for India’s dedication.

“Those systems being used in India today were initiated under the guidance of Dr. Kasturirangan,” stated PM Modi.
One additional remarkable aspect of his character, worthy for the youth to emulate, was his emphasis on innovation. The concept of continuous learning, acquiring knowledge, and embracing novel ideas was highly motivational. Dr. K. Kasturirangan significantly contributed to drafting the nation’s contemporary National Education Policy. He proposed an educational approach aligned with the demands of the 21st-century world. His dedicated service to the nation and contributions towards national development will forever be cherished. With great humility, I offer my respects to Dr. K. Kasturirangan,” he stated. (ANI)
