Morocco Joins F-16 Fighter Jet production chain

Posted on

Morocco has made significant progress in advancing its military self-governance initiative by entering the international production network for the U.S.-made F-16 combat aircraft, placing itself among nations such as Turkey and South Korea.

As stated in a U.S. State Department announcement from April 29, Morocco has been approved to obtain defense equipment, technical information, and support pertaining to F-16 parts through a technology transfer initiative valued at more than $50 million.

Following Morocco’s purchase of 24 new F-16 Viper fighter jets and its continuous upgrades of current planes to the sophisticated Block 70/72 configuration, this development comes into play. These newly ordered aircraft, anticipated for delivery by 2026, include state-of-the-art technologies such as the AN/APG-83 AESA radar system and the Viper Shield electronic warfare package.

This pact enhances Morocco’s military cooperation with the United States and represents a key moment in its initiative to develop a robust defense sector. By doing so, it bolsters Morocco’s self-reliance in addressing both local and international security issues.
