Summer Game Fest 2025: A Week of Major Game Announcements

As June unfolds, the gaming community is buzzing with excitement for a series of highly anticipated events. Rising from the legacy of E3, Geoff Keighley’s Summer Game Fest (SGF) has emerged as the leading gaming showcase of the year, surpassing even Keighley’s own Game Awards held in December. Unlike its predecessor, SGF adopts a more inclusive approach, showcasing titles from both major AAA developers and indie creators through a variety of livestreams.

Comprehensive Schedule and Coverage

Scheduled from June 3 to June 9, SGF 2025 encompasses 15 individual events. A complete schedule is available for fans eager to catch the latest updates. Our dedicated team in Los Angeles is actively covering the event, alongside a larger group of remote writers tuning in from various locations. Highlights from the Week

June 3: State of Unreal – The Witcher IV and Fortnite AI

Epic Games kicked off SGF with its State of Unreal presentation, integrated with their annual Unreal Fest. Held in Orlando from June 2-5, the event featured numerous developer sessions centered around Unreal Engine advancements. The presentation included a much-anticipated tech demo of The Witcher IV, showcasing the capabilities of Unreal Engine 5.6 on a standard PS5. This demo highlighted a vibrant world teeming with NPCs, illustrating its immersive environment.

In contrast, Fortnite’s segment focused on new features, with Epic announcing that players will soon be able to create custom AI NPCs.

June 4: PlayStation State of Play – Marvel Tōkon and Silent Hill f

Sony took the opportunity to stage its third State of Play of the year as part of SGF’s lineup. The event featured over 20 game reveals, including Marvel Tōkon, an innovative 4v4 fighting game blending Marvel superheroes with anime aesthetics, set for release in 2026 on PS5 and PC.

Additionally, several release dates were confirmed: Sword of the Sea is set for August 19, Baby Steps on September 8, and Silent Hill f on September 25. Fans can also anticipate the remaster of Final Fantasy Tactics, arriving on September 30.

June 5: A Day of Silence

Notably, June 5 saw no scheduled SGF activities, likely in observance of Arbor Day in New Zealand.

June 6: Summer Game Fest Live – New Titles and Sequels

This year’s opening night was a significant improvement over previous events, offering fewer mobile game promotions and focusing more on substantial reveals. A standout announcement was Resident Evil Requiem, anticipated to revitalize the franchise with a new narrative direction.

Further announcements included Stranger Than Heaven, a 1943-themed title from Sega’s Ryu Ga Gotoku studio, and sequels to established titles such as Atomic Heart and Mortal Shell.

Day of the Devs and Devolver

Following the major presentations was the beloved Day of the Devs, showcasing indie projects such as Escape Academy 2: Back 2 School, which builds upon the co-op escape room experience, and Relooted, a heist game centered around reclaiming cultural artifacts.

Devolver Digital also made a splash with Ball x Pit, an innovative game blending classic break-out gameplay with building mechanics, currently available for demo on Steam.
