The incredibly slim wallpaper design from LG is making a comeback. The original Wallpaper TV debuted in 2017, and it’s been six years since we last saw one. Now, LG is launching the LG OLED evo W6, and I got a sneak peek at CES.
This model boasts a body that’s just 9mm thick, slightly more than its predecessor, thanks to a complete redesign of its internal architecture. The new wall mount allows the TV to fit snugly against the wall. Plus, it uses the Zero Connect Box, eliminating the need for cables between the TV and box (though you’ll still need to plug the TV into a power source). The Zero Connect Box can be positioned up to 10 meters (about 33 feet) away and includes a full range of inputs.
The W6 also features LG’s new Hyper Radiant Color Technology, enhancing black levels, color accuracy, and brightness. It’s engineered to achieve the lowest reflectance of any LG TV and has received the Reflection Free with Premium certification from Intertek testing labs. With Brightness Booster Ultra—also found in the LG G6—the W6 is designed to deliver improved brightness. LG claims that the G6 will see a 20% increase in brightness compared to the G5 (which measured over 2,400 nits), but they haven’t disclosed the peak brightness for the W6 yet.
LG’s Gallery+ service will be accessible on the W6 Wallpaper TV (and across LG’s entire TV lineup), providing access to over 4,500 images for display when it’s not in use for movies, TV, or gaming. Additionally, the W6 supports a refresh rate of up to 165Hz, is AMD FreeSync Premium certified, and is compatible with G-Sync.
The W6 Wallpaper TV will be offered in both 77-inch and 83-inch sizes.
