New Delhi [India], April 11 (ANI): External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Friday said that India is prepared for a high degree of urgency in reaching a trade deal with regards to the United States, a country which he said has fundamentally changed its approach to engaging with the world and it has consequences across every domain.
Speaking at the Carnegie Global Technology Summit, Jaishankar said that India’s trade deals are very challenging as the
US
is very ambitious and the global landscape is very much different that what it was a year ago.
“This time, we’re definitely prepared with a strong sense of urgency. It’s like spotting an opportunity. We aim to capitalize on this situation. Our trade agreements are particularly demanding, and when I examine them, even though they aren’t directly related to me, we all work closely together. These individuals are highly skilled and extremely driven by their goals,” he stated.
Jaishankar added that similarly, the
US
has a view of India, India too has a view of them.
We spent four years negotiating with the first Trump administration. Each side has their perspective, and honestly, we had ours as well. Essentially, what it comes down to is that they failed to understand this. Therefore, when examining the situation,

“Often, people claim that we’ve been negotiating for 30 years, but this isn’t completely accurate since there were long periods when no one was communicating with each other at all. However, these processes have indeed been quite drawn out,” he stated.
Jaishankar said that the

There’s another shift, one that could be described as an evolution. It emerges gradually, almost imperceptibly, like an unfolding process rather than through significant occurrences. This gradual progression represents the advancement

So this occurred regarding trade, as expected. In various aspects, what we witnessed can be described not only as a tale of trade but also one centered around technology. There were some intense episodes, such as with DeepSeek,” he mentioned.
He stated that the two countries have mutual influences over one another.
“But I would contend that the alterations driven by

“As a matter of fact, they are interrelated; each has an impact on the other to some degree,” he stated.
Jaishankar stated that Japan, South Korea, and
China
have attempted to achieve a geopolitical resurgence via technological means.
“I believe that in numerous aspects, Japan has specifically, and to some degree South Korea as well, aimed for a geopolitical resurgence via the technology sector. Of course, the importance of Taiwan does not require further emphasis,” he stated.
He stated that India is advancing in terms of Digital Public Infrastructure and is prioritizing semiconductors.
“Now, throughout all of this, where does India stand? You’ve had a chance during this visit. I trust that your discussions over the past two days have deepened, and that they will continue to do so in the next couple of days, allowing you to understand and engage with the developments occurring in our region. While some aspects may be well-known—DPI being one example—other elements are still evolving. For instance, consider the renewed focus on semiconductors after several decades,” he stated.
Jaishankar stated that the Global Tech Summit allows people to view the technological aspect of the nation in a favorable light.
“Who exactly are the consumers? How will they consume it? Could you provide me with the updated prices for the new crude oil? Lastly, how does trading work for that specific product? I must express my appreciation for the organizers of GTS who decided to adopt an upbeat perspective on this ongoing transformation. While this choice was entirely theirs, it aligns well with both the nation’s sentiment and undoubtedly matches the government’s viewpoint,” he stated. (ANI)
