Nandan Nilekani, co-founder and chairman of the leading IT firm Infosys, has warned about getting carried away with excessive optimism over artificial intelligence. He points out that the difficulties involved in putting AI into practice still persist. As per Nilekani, embracing AI necessitates considerable work and adjustments to business processes.
During his address at the Carnegie Global Tech Summit 2025 on Friday, Nilekani pointed out that the disparity between international advancements and AI implementation in India appears to be minimal.
He likewise highlighted the importance of altering routines and processes within businesses and governmental bodies to seamlessly incorporate artificial intelligence.
Everyone is discussing AI, making the entire situation seem quite overhyped. However, at its core, the fundamental challenges of implementing it remain similar to those elsewhere, and we must ensure that our habits adjust accordingly,” Nilekani stated.
He emphasized that integrating AI into workflows within businesses or governmental organizations is essential. While significant upgrades will be necessary, the core principles remain important.
Nilekani stressed that embracing AI won’t make things simpler and will demand at least the same level of effort, if not greater. He stated, “Adopting AI isn’t going to make tasks easier; it’s likely going to necessitate even more effort.”
He emphasized the greater accountability that accompanies entrusting decision-making to machines. “Since you rely on the machine for making choices, it’s crucial to ensure it functions properly,” he stated firmly.
Even with the difficulties, Nilekani feels confident that India’s advanced technology over the last fifteen years will facilitate quicker uptake of AI. He said, “Due to where India stands now and the level of technological advancement we’ve achieved in about the past fifteen years, the pace of adopting AI will be considerably swifter.”
