On April 11 (ANI): Observing that
India
is implementing numerous effective strategies to enhance its semiconductor industry,
John Neuffer
, President and Chief Executive Officer of the U.S.-based company
Semiconductor Industry Association
has stated that diversifying
supply chain
S is unavoidable and it generates additional chances.
India
to become part of the USA

.
During an exclusive interview with ANI at the sidelines of Carnegie,
India
The Global Technology Summit will take place this coming Friday.
John Neuffer
indicated that additional businesses will join in
India
‘s semiconductor ecosystem.
Neuffer said
India
He is moving in the correct direction and remains highly optimistic about future prospects.
However, he said
India
needs to concentrate on certain challenges at the border involving customs procedures, as well as some tariff and non-tariff matters.
“It’s unavoidable that we’ll see increased diversity in the
supply chain
That began intensively as we emerged from the pandemic, and we identified weaknesses and excessive concentrations within our systems.
supply chain
. That creates opportunities for
India
to vacuum up more of our
supply chain
,” Neuffer told ANI.
He said
India
has achieved substantial advancements in its semiconductor initiative.
“Compared to where
India
It was a few years back, but it has made substantial strides since then. Currently, we have six major initiatives underway.
India
is implementing many correct strategies.
India
needs to concentrate on certain challenges at the border involving customs, including some tariff and non-tariff matters… However, overall,
India
“is moving in the correct direction, with a highly optimistic outlook,” he noted.
Asked how
India
US collaborate more in semiconductor manufacturing, Neuffer said everybody in the
supply chain
plays a different role.
He also suggested that
India
needs to handle a greater variety of crucial minerals and other elements essential at the beginning stages of the semiconductor production chain.
“Everybody in our
supply chain
takes on a distinct part, and I believe
India
holds significant potential for our upcoming backend assembly tests and packaging processes. This aspect is crucial for us.
supply chain
, however, on the frontend, there are also essential minerals.
India
contains many of these crucial minerals and handles much of their processing within various sectors where essential minerals and gases originate. Therefore, I believe
India
Neuffer stated that they need to increase their efforts in those specific areas.
“As
India
becomes more actively involved in our
supply chain
s, I think it’s inevitable that we’re going to get more companies participating in
India
‘”s semi-ecosystem,” he stated.”
Previously, while addressing the Carnegie Foundation,
India
The Global Technology Summit was mentioned by Neuffer.
India
one should examine PCBs – Printed Circuit Boards.
That’s a crucial aspect of our
supply chain
And ultimately, we come to critical minerals. One nation stands out for handling extensive processing of these essential materials… In this day and age, it’s crucial that we diversify our
supply chain
This acceleration presents an opportunity for many participants globally, particularly for those involved.
India
, our market size right now is about USD 600 billion a year in sales. Because of AI Automotive, many other sectors are demanding our chips, and we’re probably going to be a trillion-dollar sector by 2030. If
India
plays its cards right, its piece of pie will become even bigger,” he said.
Neuffer referred to the TRUST agreement between
India
as well as the discussions aimed at reaching a bilateral trade deal with the US.
”
India
Has made significant contributions to our industry (semiconductors). Twenty percent of our employees work here. This location houses the design of our microchips. It boasts an excellent ecosystem for such endeavors. We find ourselves at a crucial juncture currently. There’s the TRUST initiative ahead of us, along with a bilateral trade deal,” he stated.
These are two possible avenues for change that can have an impact.

India
significant advancements have been achieved up until now. Just two years back, there were no initiatives underway. Currently, however, there are six crucial projects advancing manufacturing efforts, such as the assembly test packaging plant under construction by Micron in Gujarat…Perhaps one day,
India
“is planning to build a fabrication plant with a budget of $10-$20 billion… That’s quite an ambitious goal,” he remarked.

The TRUST (“Transforming the Relationship Utilizing Strategic Technology”) initiative aims to stimulate cooperation among governments, academic institutions, and private sectors. This program seeks to encourage the deployment of key and advanced technologies in fields such as defense, AI, semiconductors, quantum computing, biotech, energy, and aerospace. It also promotes working with approved tech suppliers and safeguarding proprietary technologies.
