Guaranty Trust Bank (GTBank) has declared an escalation in its SMS transaction alert charges from ₦4 to ₦6 per notification, starting May 1, 2025. According to the bank, this change is due to the recent hike in telecommunications fees imposed by service providers.
GTBank informed their clients via a message that SMS notifications sent to international mobile numbers would incur additional fees because of differing telecommunications expenses. They highlighted the significance of transaction alerts for keeping customers aware of their account activities.
Clients who no longer want to receive SMS notifications can choose to modify their alert settings by filling out a form provided on the bank’s website through an email submission. This change enables individuals to tailor their notification choices based on personal requirements.
The surcharge hike impacts GTBank clients, who will now incur a ₦6 fee for each SMS notification regarding their transactions.
