On Saturday, the International University of Rabat (UIR) was awarded two medals at the 50th Geneva International Exhibition of Inventions, which took place from April 9 to 13, with one being a gold medal.
Asmae Berrada received the gold medal for her “Hybrid Gravitational Energy Storage” (HyGES) project, marking a first at UIR. Her creation introduces an advanced energy storage method that merges pulley-based gravitational force with hydraulic systems. The HyGRES technology provides a flexible, dependable, and economical approach to storing electrical power.
Ahmed Zouggar and Maouéna Fongbedji received the silver medal for their “FootStep Guard” invention—an advanced prosthetic device featuring a vibration alarm system intended to prevent abrupt impacts. This technology alerts the user as their foot nears the ground, enhancing safety and comfort during post-operative recovery sessions.
Mohsine Bouya, who leads UIR’s Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship, expressed his congratulations to the inventors and project leaders, praising their talents, efforts, and contributions towards achieving excellence for Morocco on an international level.
“This dual achievement truly acknowledges the research and innovation efforts at the UIR, affirming its dedication to fostering innovation through 650 patents, which positions it as the foremost institution in Africa. It also highlights their focus on developing technologically advanced solutions that have significant impact,” he stated to MAP.
According to Bouya, UIR continues to lead Africa with 650 patents, as reported by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO).
An important gathering for innovation lovers, this exposition attracts contributors from more than 40 countries and regions, highlighting cutting-edge technologies set to shape tomorrow.
