Every year, Google puts together a report showcasing the top trending searches, giving us a glimpse of our shared curiosities across pop culture, entertainment, internet trends, and news. This year, people were buzzing about everything from hot honey and AI chatbots to the Toronto Blue Jays.
It’s important to note that Google’s report doesn’t just list the most popular searches. If it did, we would see general terms like “weather” dominating the list. Instead, Google’s “Year in Search” highlights the queries that experienced a notable spike in traffic in 2025 compared to 2024.
The top trending search this year was “Gemini,” which refers to Google’s AI chatbot. Following that were “India vs England” and “Charlie Kirk.” Gemini wasn’t alone in the AI chatbot category, as DeepSeek also made the cut at seventh place among trending searches.
In 2025, Google identified Charlie Kirk as the leading trending news topic, with the query “Charlie Kirk assassination” topping the list. The second and third most searched news queries focused on “Iran” and “US Government Shutdown,” respectively.
On the culinary front, the spotlight was on hot honey, the top trending search in recipes, with Marry Me Chicken and chimichurri taking the second and third spots.
When it comes to films, “Anora” topped the trending searches, followed by “Superman” and the “Minecraft Movie.” In the realm of actors, Mikey Madison from “Anora” was the most searched, with Lewis Pullman from Marvel’s “Thunderbolts” and Isabela Merced from “Superman” following closely behind.
In sports, “FIFA Club World Cup” was the top trending search, trailed by “Asia Cup” and “ICC Champions Trophy.” The most searched sports team was Paris Saint-Germain F.C., with S.L. Benfica and the Toronto Blue Jays coming in second and third.
For podcasts, “The Charlie Kirk Show” came in first, followed by Jason and Travis Kelce’s “New Heights” and “This is Gavin Newsom.”
As for books, the most searched title was Colleen Hoover’s “Regretting You,” with Rebecca Yarros’ “Onyx Storm” and Naveesa Allen’s “Lights Out” rounding out the top three.
