Gemini 3 Launch, Nvidia Earnings Report, and Epstein Files Impact – WIRED Roundup

Zoë Schiffer: Yeah, I think one thing everyone can agree on is that Nvidia has really gone all in during this AI boom. For better or worse, about 90 percent of Nvidia’s sales, once dominated by chips for gaming PCs, now come from its data center business. Every time there’s a partnership between OpenAI and another company, Nvidia seems to be involved. It feels like they’re connected to nearly everyone in this industry at this point.

Max Zeff: Absolutely, they’ve embedded themselves with every AI company. But that’s also raised some major concerns. There’s a lot of chatter about these circular deals, where Nvidia heavily relies on those startups they’re funding. They’re a customer and an investor at the same time. So, it’s not surprising that Jensen is constantly defending the AI bubble.

Zoë Schiffer: Right. Another point of concern for those wary of the AI bubble is that GPUs make up the bulk of the costs for building a data center, and they need to be replaced roughly every three years. Nvidia keeps releasing new cutting-edge chips that companies need to buy to remain competitive. People worry that this renewal cycle isn’t fully incorporated into the pricing, but as long as companies keep purchasing chips, Jensen is insisting that “No, we’re insulated for now.”

Max Zeff: We’ll see if that holds true.

Zoë Schiffer: One more story before we wrap up, and we have to approach this one a bit more seriously. Not that we aren’t usually professional, Max, but just a bit more so. You’ll see what I mean. WIRED contributor Mattha Busby reported on how two young Mormons developed an app to help other men break free from porn addiction and “gooning” habits. Honestly, I’d never heard that term before reading this, and I was taken aback. If you’re not familiar with gooning, it’s essentially a term for edging—long hours of masturbation without release. This app, called Relay, was created by 27-year-old Chandler Rogers to help his Gen Z peers stop these behaviors and generally escape the grasp of porn. I have some other suggestions—like going outside or talking to someone—but I don’t want to be harsh, as I know this can be a tough issue for many.
