First Gaming Handheld with Folding Screen: OneXSugar Wallet

Folding OLED displays are primarily seen in high-end smartphones and laptops, but One-Netbook is taking this technology to a new level with its gaming device, the OneXSugar Wallet. This new handheld is a nod to the company’s earlier release, the folding OneXSugar Sugar 1, which came out earlier this year. Unlike its predecessor, the Wallet features a single large 8.01-inch OLED screen with a 4:3 aspect ratio, as noted by Retro Handhelds.

The OneXSugar Wallet was unveiled on China’s Weibo yesterday, though specific details about its features are sparse. It boasts a folding OLED screen with a resolution of 2480 x 1860 pixels and will run on an unspecified “Qualcomm gaming platform flagship processor,” but exact performance metrics and emulation capabilities have yet to be revealed.

Based on images and a video shared by One-Netbook, the OneXSugar Wallet includes a standard control setup with asymmetrical thumbsticks, four action buttons, and a D-pad on either side of the screen’s lower half. The back of the device has shoulder buttons and triggers, while the top half of the screen is flanked by dual front-facing speakers.

The major question looming over this device is its price. While there are already handheld consoles that cost around $1,000, folding screen devices like the Google Pixel 10 Pro Fold and Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 are priced closer to $2,000. Will gamers be willing to invest in the OneXSugar Wallet if it falls into a similar price range? Perhaps there’s a reason it’s named the Wallet.
