ADDIS ABABA – The Ethiopian Lottery Service (ELS) has formally introduced Ethiopia’s inaugural digital lottery, signifying a significant step forward in the nation’s progression towards digitization.

The kickoff event occurred on Saturday at Skylight Hotel, with attendance from high-ranking officials, lottery victors, ELS executives, invitees, and various stakeholders.

At the event, ELS CEO Beza Girma remarked that this launch is an integral component of their ongoing initiative to update and digitalize their services. Having served as the nation’s exclusive overseer and provider of lottery games for more than 60 years, ELS is now adopting technological advancements to improve access and effectiveness.

Beza stated that ELS, working alongside TAMCON Software Solutions, has finished developing a digital lottery system. This platform boasts a massive 50 million Birr grand prize and accommodates eight Ethiopian languages, promoting broad inclusion and easy access for all users.

As Beza pointed out, the conventional paper-dependent lottery system has impeded progress because of substantial expenditures related to printing and distribution.” “Implementing this digital approach will not just lower operating costs but also enhance accessibility and boost income production.

The updated system enables individuals to safely buy lottery tickets via multiple digital platforms such as smartphones, PCs, web portals, and text messages. This advancement aims to enhance convenience, security, and transparency for countless Ethiopian participants in lotteries.

Beza highlighted that this initiative aligns with the government’s aim for a digital economy by broadening the accessibility of lottery services independently of physical structures. She further noted, “This represents a crucial advancement towards digital integration and contemporary economic progress.”

The digital lottery aims to boost user satisfaction, increase operational efficiency, and support Ethiopia’s larger goals for digital advancement.
