EAM Jaishankar Meets Italian Ministers: Tackles Trade, Investment, IMEC, Maritime, and Security

In New Delhi [India], on Friday, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar held meetings with Italy’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Antonio Tajani, as well as Minister Anna Maria Bernini. During these discussions, they examined current collaborations in crucial areas such as trade, investments, maritime safety, technological advancements, educational exchanges, and cultural initiatives.

They also exchanged views on current global developments in regions such as Europe, the Mediterranean, and West Asia, reaffirming their commitment to the Joint Strategic Action Plan 2025-29.

On X, Jaishankar posted, “Today, I had fruitful talks with the Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister @Antonio_Tajani as well as Minister @BerniniAM from Italy. We jointly examined our bilateral collaboration and its progress across various sectors including trade, investment, IMEC, maritime affairs, security, research, technology, education, and cultural exchange.”

The posting also stated, “Discussed current worldwide trends, particularly those occurring in Europe, the Mediterranean region, and Western Asia. Our collaboration persists and transforms according to the Joint Strategic Action Plan 2025-29 approved by our leaders.”


Earlier in the day, Jaishankar emphasized the robust bilateral relationship between India and Italy, noting that their “collaboration is grounded in shared democratic principles, reverence for civilizations, culture, and legacy.”

At the Italy-India Business, Science and Technology Forum, Jaishankar highlighted theJoint Strategic Action Plan for 2025-2029 between India and Italy, which was approved by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and ItalianPrime MinisterGiorgia Meloni when they met during the G20 summit in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on November 18, 2024. The plan aims to strengthen mutual collaboration.

Jaishankar stated that ‘The plan, approved by our Prime Ministers, encapsulates their perspective on strengthening the bilateral strategic relationship between our nations.’

The tangible results will be advantageous for both parties involved. They guided us to collaborate with our respective sectors as well as engage our research organizations and academic bodies to promote partnerships, joint development, creativity, and the exchange of information and expertise between us,” he noted.

Jaishankar emphasized the shared perspective of both nations, stating, “The collaboration between India and Italy is grounded in our commitment to democratic principles, reverence for our respective cultures and heritages, and most importantly, a mutual desire for a secure, orderly, and thriving global community.” (ANI)
