The Head of the Department of Mass Communication at the University of Benin, Professor Daniel Ekhareafo, has urged public relations professionals to adopt digital resources and creative approaches to stay significant amid the changing communication environment.

On Wednesday, during the quarterly general assembly and public address held by the Edo State chapter of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations, Ekhareafo emphasized the significance of technology, data analysis, and corporate social responsibility within contemporary PR strategies.

Presenting a talk called “New Developments in Public Relations and Innovations within the Sector,” the scholar highlighted that the field is experiencing significant change due to swift technological progress, evolving social interactions, and altered consumer demands.

Adopting digital instruments, utilizing data analysis, promoting genuineness via corporate social responsibility, and managing the intricacies of crisis communications are crucial for contemporary PR practitioners,” stated Ekhareafo. “Given that the environment keeps changing, creativity and flexibility will stay vital components of successful communication tactics.

During his speech, Dr. Wisdom Abhulimen, who serves as the chairman of the NIPR Edo State Chapter, praised the significance of the lecture’s topic. He highlighted how public relations has evolved over time due to digital transformation and artificial intelligence, which have dramatically altered the field.

“At the Edo State Chapter, we share the same goals as the national organization: to foster excellence in public relations, maintain high ethical standards, and guarantee professionalism across all tiers,” stated Abhulimen.

He restated his dedication to enhancing the field via training programs, advocating for better policies, and implementing capacity-development projects.

“By means of targeted interactions, ongoing professional growth, and raising awareness among the public, we are establishing a strong base for the future of PR in Edo State,” he concluded.
