Rose Wang, the Chief Operating Officer of Bluesky, emphasized the platform’s intent in a recent post: “We aren’t trapping you in Bluesky. We want you to use Bluesky to discover what’s happening.”

A Departure from Traditional Streaming Models

This innovative approach contrasts sharply with strategies employed by former owner Twitter, which invested heavily in streaming live sports events and entered into costly licensing agreements. Unlike Twitter, Bluesky benefits from venture capital funding and does not depend on advertising revenue. This unique financial structure allows Bluesky to focus on user experience rather than monetizing the duration users spend on the platform. Furthermore, Wang confirmed that this beta testing will extend to Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA) games as well, making the feature applicable across more major events.
