Alien Returns to Earth for Season 2

More than a month after the first season finale aired, FX has finally confirmed that Alien: Earth will return for a second season, putting an end to some restless nights for this writer and Alien fans alike. While a release date is still under wraps, filming is set to take place sometime next year. Showrunner Noah Hawley is back at the helm, and the delay in the announcement might be linked to his new ongoing deal with Disney. According to The Hollywood Reporter, this deal could allow him to explore opportunities beyond FX, where he’s previously worked on Fargo, Legion, and now Alien.

“FX has always supported bold, character-driven storytelling. From the very beginning with Fargo, they’ve encouraged me to take creative risks and follow the story wherever it leads," Hawley stated. "I’m grateful to continue exploring the world of Alien: Earth alongside our partners, cast, and crew as we begin the next chapter.”

Production for the new season will shift from Thailand to London. It remains to be seen if this move is purely practical or if it indicates a shift away from the Neverland island that serves as the headquarters for the Prodigy corporation. Additionally, there’s another Alien project in the works, with a sequel to the 2024 movie Romulus also on the horizon.
