The Governing Council of the Air Force Institute of Technology (AFIT), which is part of the Nigerian Air Force (NAF), has ratified the selection of Air Vice Marshal Osichinaka Chiedu Ubadike as a professor specializing in Aerospace Engineering.
In a statement provided to Defense Journalists on Sunday by the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) spokesman Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, it was announced that this promotion makes him the first active-duty officer in the history of the NAF to receive the title of Professor.
The statement indicated that awarding the professorship serves as an acknowledgment of the vision held by the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Hasan Bala Abubakar, who has placed significant emphasis on advancing technology via education, skill development, and research and development initiatives.
The statement also highlighted that Air Vice Marshal Ubadike, who is both a distinguished academic and a skilled military officer, has earned his PhD along with a Master’s degree in Aerospace Engineering and Aircraft Design from Cranfield University located in the UK.
He has acquired an additional three master’s degrees from Ahmadu Bello University and the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA). Furthermore, he earned a first-class bachelor’s degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering at the NDA.

He has spearheaded multiple advanced research projects at the NAF, notably playing a crucial part in the creation of the homegrown NAF Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV).”
The statement went on to say that the Governing Council also approved the appointment of retired Air Vice Marshal Paul Jemitola as a Professor of Aerospace Engineering.
Dr. Jemitola, who previously served as the Commandant of AFIT, is highly esteemed for his profound knowledge in interdisciplinary and multifaceted aircraft design optimization.
He holds a Master’s degree and PhD from Cranfield University and was the lead designer of the NAF UAV project.
He is a chartered engineer in the United Kingdom and currently serves as the Acting Vice Chancellor of Isaac Balami University of Aeronautics and Management, Lagos.
