If you received a password reset email from Instagram recently, you’re not alone. Instagram has stated that the issue is resolved. However, what exactly caused it remains unclear. We reached out to Meta for more details but haven’t heard back yet. All we know is that an “external party” triggered those emails, and Instagram assured users they can ignore them.
The company shared on X that the issue has been fixed and insisted there was no breach of its systems. This statement seems to conflict with reports from Malwarebytes, which indicated that information from 17.5 million Instagram accounts—such as usernames, physical addresses, phone numbers, and email addresses—was found on the dark web.
