A New E-Reader
When I rediscovered my love for reading, I fell head over heels for ebooks, especially after getting access to free copies from the library through the Libby app. For my birthday one year, I got a Kindle from two different people, and I haven’t looked back since. For anyone who’s new to reading or tired of lugging around heavy books, an e-reader could be the perfect solution (and you can still download those free library books).
Kobo Libra Colour
If they already have an e-reader but want to add some color to their reading experience, the Kobo Libra Colour is a fantastic choice. It allows for a vibrant reading experience and even has options for a stylus, turning it into a digital notebook. Plus, it features convenient page-turner buttons, which you won’t find on a Kindle.
Kobo Clara Colour
This e-reader from Kobo matches the price of the Kindle Paperwhite but comes with a color screen. It’s smaller at 6 inches, like the base Kindle, and is lightweight for comfortable reading. It’s an excellent budget option if you don’t need the stylus and notebook features of the Libra.
Amazon Kindle Paperwhite (2024, 12th Generation)
If they don’t already have a Kindle, the 12th-edition Paperwhite is our favorite pick. It features a warm front light, impressive battery life, and comes in an eye-catching pink color. You can upgrade to the Signature edition for auto-adjusting light and extra storage (more space for more books!).
Amazon Kindle Scribe (2024)
The Kindle Scribe 2 is a dual-purpose e-reader and digital notebook. It has a larger screen for easy writing and drawing. However, keep in mind that it doesn’t have a color display, although a color version is set to launch soon, so stay tuned for updates in our Best Kindles guide.
E-Reader Accessories
From fun cases to practical straps, there’s no shortage of accessories that enhance the reading experience on Kindles and other e-readers.
PopSockets PopCase Kindle and PopGrip
PopSockets offers a new collection of Kindle cases featuring a MagSafe ring, making it easy to attach a PopSocket grip. The “Curled Up With a Good Book” design includes a matching case and grip duo.
SleepCover
This stylish case not only looks great but also folds to prop up the Kobo for hands-free reading. It’s available in fun colors and fits several Kobo models, including the Clara and Libra.
PopSockets Heart of Silver MagSafe PopGrip
This is my all-time favorite PopGrip. It’s perfectly sized for my small hands to comfortably use on a 7-inch Paperwhite and Colorsoft, plus it looks and feels cool to the touch.
Strapsicle E-Reader Hand Strap
These handy straps make it easy to hold an e-reader for prolonged periods. They’re simple to attach, and you can usually get by using just one of the two straps. Don’t miss out on their limited-edition neon collection!
Accessories for Physical Book Readers

WithIt Duo Reading Light
This cute book light features individual lights for each side of the book and has flexible arms for perfect page lighting. Plus, you can toggle between two brightness levels.
Kobo Remote
Kobo has introduced its first page-turner accessory, letting readers turn pages without lifting a finger. Finally, a page-turner from an e-reader brand instead of a third-party option!
Book Bags
For those who love to carry their e-reader or a favorite book, these accessories make it easy to bring along their reads (and jot down thoughts!).
Amazon Kindle Sling Bag
This sleek sling bag is perfectly sized to carry a Kindle and a few essentials without being bulky. Its GRS-certified recycled leather exterior combines durability with a smooth finish.
