Wyze has introduced a unique outdoor security solution with its new Window Cam, designed to monitor your yard and property from inside your home. This innovative approach eliminates the need for batteries, Wi-Fi range extenders, external power outlets, or weatherproofing. While Wyze already sells window mounts for its indoor security cameras, the Window Cam is specifically engineered for outdoor monitoring, featuring infrared and LED lighting removed to prevent glare and reflections. Equipped with a 1080P HD sensor and a lens that provides a 101-degree horizontal field of view and a 53.9-degree vertical view, the Window Cam also boasts “enhanced color night vision.” This feature utilizes a wide f/1.0 aperture to capture color footage even in low light conditions.
The camera comes with a mount that includes a large black bezel to lessen indoor lighting glare. It attaches via a generic hook-and-loop fastener, while the mount itself adheres to the window with an adhesive sticker. This sticker isn’t meant for reuse, requiring a hair dryer and scraper for removal, but Wyze supplies two stickers if you need to change the mount’s position later on.
Included with the Window Cam is a 10-foot long microUSB cable for power, but you’ll need to supply your own microSD card, with a capacity of up to 512GB, if you want secure 24/7 local recording. Although the camera features a built-in microphone and speaker, its two-way communication and audio recording capabilities may be less effective behind a window compared to traditional outdoor security cameras.
The Window Cam provides motion detection alerts that can include AI-generated descriptions of what it captures, available with a subscription to the company’s Cam Unlimited Pro service for $19.99 per month or $199.99 per year.
