8BitDo Unveils Upgraded N40 Versions of Gaming Accessories

8BitDo, a leading name in gaming peripherals, has announced the release of the N40 versions of several popular products, including the Ultimate 2 controller, Retro 68 keyboard, and Retro Cube 2 speaker. These upgrades focus on both aesthetic enhancements and significant hardware improvements, appealing to gamers and collectors alike.

Ultimate 2 Controller N40: A Nod to Nostalgia

The newly updated 8BitDo Ultimate 2 Controller N40 boasts a fresh black-and-gray color scheme contrasted with vibrant red buttons. This design pays homage to the classic NES console, enhanced further by a matching charging dock. The controller retains the functionality of its predecessor, featuring TMR joysticks, Hall effect triggers, and customizable bumper buttons. Additionally, it includes four interchangeable joystick caps and a ring of color-changing LEDs surrounding each joystick.

Compatible with the Nintendo Switch, Switch 2, and Windows devices, the Ultimate 2 Controller N40 is available for preorder at a price of $79.99. Buyers will receive 8BitDo’s Retro Receiver for connecting wirelessly to an original NES and a 2.4GHz adapter for quicker wireless gaming. Limited to just 1,985 units, this controller is set to hit the market on November 15, 2025.

Retro 68 Keyboard N40: Compact Yet Powerful

The 8BitDo Retro 68 Keyboard N40 presents a notable departure from its predecessor with a more compact 68-key layout. While it maintains a similar appearance to the original Retro 87, it includes critical hardware upgrades. The entire unit is crafted from premium aluminum alloy, and instead of the previous Kailh Box White V2 switches, it features new Box Ice Cream Pro Max linear switches for improved performance.

One of the most significant changes is the larger 6,500mAh battery, allowing for an impressive up to 300 hours of usage on a single charge. The keyboard also retains the oversized programmable Super Buttons, which now connect wirelessly rather than through a 3.5mm cable. The Retro 68 N40 is notably heavier, weighing 2,200 grams, and is priced at $499.99 for preorder, with shipping anticipated in January 2026.

Retro Cube 2 Speaker N Edition: Enhanced Audio Experience

The 8BitDo Retro Cube 2 Speaker N Edition retains the NES-themed design of its predecessor, first launched in 2016. However, this new iteration introduces dual stereo speakers equipped with dedicated music and gaming modes, a built-in microphone, and an upgraded 2,000mAh battery that provides up to 30 hours of playback on a full charge.

Another notable addition is the option for a 2.4GHz connection alongside traditional Bluetooth connectivity through a bundled dongle. Users will also appreciate the shift from Micro USB to USB-C for charging, complemented by a new wireless charging dock. The Retro Cube 2 is available for preorder at $49.99 and is expected to launch on December 8, 2025.

Conclusion

With the release of the N40 versions of its key gaming accessories, 8BitDo continues to enhance its offerings, striking a balance between nostalgia and modern gaming needs. Gamers and enthusiasts can look forward to these innovative products that promise to elevate their gaming experiences.
